You probably have read and tested all the diets on the market! So have I! I know that I should stop snacking, avoid sugar/chocolate/cookies, whatever tastes so good! I know I should exercise more, but hey, can someone do my chores so I can go to the gym?! If there is a diet, I have tried it. So try these easy tips instead, which are not a diet.

1 - Brush your teeth after every meal to get the peppermint taste in your mouth. Clean, peppermint breath kills the urge of eating. Mixed peppermint and sugar or food tastes bad!

2 - Drink coffee before you exercise. Caffeine makes the fatty acids work better in your blood, which again means you burn more fat. 5 cups of coffee daily is recommendable, a new research shows that 5 cups a day protects against several diseases. But no more than 5 cups!

3 - Eat apples. A research in Washington State showed that by eating 3 apples a day you can lose up to 20 pounds in three months. The fiber in the apples reduces the cholesterol and helps your digestion. And by reducing the cholesterol it’s healthy for your heart!

These three tips are easy to include in your daily routines. They are no sacrifice like most of the diets.

Falling in love with yourself is the ultimate gift. Before you can fall in love with another, you must fall in love with yourself. As Wayne Dyer says, “You cannot give away what you don’t have for yourself.” Keep remembering this.

I believe this is the greatest opportunity for us to learn how to do. Did you know that there are some of my clients who have resistance in expressing love for themselves? When asked to say their name and then “I love you,” they make the choice not to do it.

Express the love for yourself right now by writing a love letter to you. Stop what you’re doing and start writing about your characteristics, your talents…..Who are you? Okay, you can read this first and then write.

Our patterns of self-criticism (EGO) can be very apparent when trying to express love for ourselves. We can easily go to “I don’t do this well. I can’t do this. I should have done this. I am such a screw up.”

Let’s create a new pattern of behavior which only represents the God within. Let’s say instead: I bring joy to others! I always smile! I’m a great writer! I laugh a lot! I love me!

Let me tell you a little story. When I was in grade school, I had a classmate named Paul. Paul was such a great artist and I remember sitting in class watching him draw and was so envious of his talent. Of course, I attempted to draw and stick figures were the result. I was very frustrated thinking that I had no talent of any kind because I focused on what I didn’t do well. I looked at others too and had those same thoughts wishing I could be like them. What I was really expressing is “I am nothing. I have nothing to offer.”

It wasn’t until many years later I realized that I’m a great writer, but hadn’t considered this a talent until I changed the way I looked at me. I now change my conversations inside and out to represent what I do well and express love for me.

You know, I did like writing as a child and used to write songs. I loved doing this…it was the way I expressed myself.

Always remember that you do have talents, you do have gifts, you are brilliant! For today, remember who you are and express your love for you by writing that love letter to yourself. Fall in love with yourself!

You may not realize it, but there is a certain psychology at work in successful weight loss. It is no surprise, then, that the magazine Psychology Today has explored the issue in-depth. In October of 2004, the magazine posted an article on its website detailing the experiences of Diane Berry, a nurse practitioner who studied women who had shed at least 15 pounds and had maintained their weight loss for an average of seven years.

The women shared some important things in common. For instance, they all achieved their weight loss through either Weight Watchers or TOPS, which meant that they had a firm support network as they tried to maintain their weight. The group meetings were highly important, because they learned to recognize that they were certainly not alone in their struggles with weight. The women were also quite unusual because up to 90 percent of individuals who have lost weight end up putting it back on within five years.

Another common trait of these women is that they appeared to undergo a profound mood shift as they made the transition from fat to thin. From all indications, they appeared to be depressed when they were heavy but, as they attempted to lose weight, their mood brightened.

For these women, healthy eating became a habita habit they refused to break. They themselves recognized the tremendous role that psychology plays in weight loss. They refused to give in to negative feelings of frustration and denial and chose a positive path instead. The women also made it a point to weigh themselves regularly so that they could chart their progress.

And they recognized that maintaining weight loss would be a lifetime struggle. They knew that they could not attempt a weight loss program then put it back on the shelf. They had to learn new eating patterns that they could continue week in and week out. In some cases, they likened their struggle to that of an alcoholic. In other words, they recognized the gravity of their problem and took steps to correct the situation.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of these women’s experiences was the fact that their weight loss actually came in spurts. At times, they regained their weight, but they did not let that deter them from their final goal. They simply viewed their setbacks as challenges that they needed to overcome. This may be the key psychological trait that separates successful dieters from unsuccessful onesperseverance. In essence, these women were able to change their personalities in a positive way in order to achieve their long-term weight loss goals.

Another interesting aspect of this study was that it showed that the women who had undergone weight loss transformation were genuinely happy. This shows the tremendous psychological impact that weight loss can have on an individual. Once an individual is free from the burden of extra weight, he or she is better able to meet the challenges of life head-on. The dieter benefits from positive reinforcement, as relatives, friends, and co-workers congratulate him or her for the weight loss. In this way, losing weight can be quite a life-affirming experience and can lead to a more optimistic outlook on life.

It must be noted here that the psychology of weight loss is a complicated matter. There is no single ingredient that can turn a fat person into a thin one. However, recognizing that there is a psychological component to successful weight loss may, in fact, be half the battle. Once an individual recognizes that he or she is engaged in a psychological fight, he or she is better able to do battle. By retraining oneself to seek healthy approaches to diet, one can, in effect, mold oneself into a new individualone that no longer lives to eat, but simply eats to live.

I can’t tell you how many people contact me right after the New Year and want to quit smoking. Most of them tell me they are not sure how or why they ever got started, but they want to stop. They tell me that they don’t like the smell or that smoking makes their teeth and fingers yellow, but most of all what it is doing to their health. It is no secret that it deteriorates the heart and lungs, increases the aging process and amplifies your chances of getting cancer.

Many make numerous unsuccessful attempts at quitting and are ready to gain knowledge of how to end their habit and regain strong lungs naturally and permanently. These are some of the questions and answers that may help you get over the hump and on to bigger and better things. <

“Can I quash the harm that I have done to my body after smoking all this time?”

Absolutely! Your body is extremely dynamic and can mend once you cease smoking. It matters not who you are or what you do. You have the ability to be a healer. In fact, you are doing the work of a healer far more often than you even realize!

To become a healer means to simply declare that you will use a portion (or all!) of your life for the benefit of others. It’s really not that outrageous a concept. Neither is it an exclusive thing where to be a healer means doing certain things at certain times with certain people. To be a healer means to make yourself available as a vehicle for the good. It is all about one thing; intent.

If you take a minute to look at the people in your life you will be able to identify plenty who are doing the work of healers. You know what it feels like when you’re with them, and it doesn’t matter whether they are postal workers, hard hats, bakers, teachers, sanitation workers, engineers, police, housewives, environmentalists or yes, even lawyers and politicians. They are just doing the work. At some level, they have offered themselves to be of service to that which brings things together.

Opportunities to be a vehicle for healing pop up all the time. The wonderful thing about that is if you choose to see it, with every instance of applying your energy and skills for the good of others, you also get the chance to bask in the wonder of healing yourself. Healing is a force that is inclusive of you and not limited to the intended recipient. The more you allow it to flow through you, the more you can be affected by it.

There is a catch, if you choose to consider it as such. The more of your energy you apply toward developing yourself as a healer, the more life you will be called upon to live. What I mean by that is you will be drawn deeper into the flow of life. When that happens, you will be exposed to many more parts, sides, faces and even dimensions of this Great Mystery than you ever realized existed. And nothing we can see lacks a shadow.

Once again, however, your orientation will make all the difference in the world. If an experience is interpreted as a burden, then that is the downward spiral you will enter. If it is interpreted as a gift that can be applied for the good of others, then that is exactly what it will become.

What healers learn is that healing is all-inclusive. It encompasses and even embraces pain and suffering. There is nothing that cannot be used as a tool to affect it. Once this orientation begins to live inside you, a whole new world opens up where every moment is a moment where life is experienced. Where there is life, there is healing. In this case, healing, rather than bringing something back to what was once before, becomes a vehicle for transformation into a new creation.
