Would you like to enhance your creativity? Do you think that increased creativity is something that would improve your life?

Before you answer yes or no to that question, take some time to explore what the word creativity means to you.

If you think that creativity is something that you only need if youre an artist, while you happen to be a middle-manager in a corporation, you may decide that increased creativity is not really important to you. But creativity is actually something far broader than artistic expression, and its required in many areas of life.

Your idea of a creative person might be someone who lives in a loft, painting gigantic canvases all day long. Or perhaps a writer at her computer, working on a long novel. Or a musician, actor, or singer performing on stage to an audience. All these people are expressing themselves artistically, and they can all rightly be said to be creative people, even if no one else enjoys their art.

But what about an entrepreneur who has an idea for a new product, who forms a new company to produce and distribute it, eventually employing hundreds of people? Doesnt this also require creativity?

What about a research scientist toiling in a lab, developing new compounds in an effort to cure disease? Isnt this creative? What about a single mother who manages to come up with healthy delicious meals on a tiny budget? Isnt that creativity?

To one person, creativity can mean gluing seashells to a picture frame. To another, creativity might mean solving a grand unified theory in physics. And to another person, being creative might mean coming up with an ingenious new way to speed up a factory assembly line.

When we define creativity only in terms of artistic expression, we miss a lot of other potential applications for creative thinking and problem solving.

An artist painting a picture, or a writer working on a novel, both have something in common with the researcher in the lab, and the entrepreneur, and the person gluing seashells to picture frames.

They are all working on problems and devising solutions that didnt exist before. These people are using their minds to imagine fresh ways of doing something, putting together existing forms and ideas in new ways.

They may be creating a new idea, a new look, a new product, or new technique. Sometimes the ability to be more creative can lead to personal fame and fortune; sometimes it just provides a deep sense of personal satisfaction.

Can we improve our ability to be creative? Yes, in fact, learning to be more creative can be quite enjoyable and easy to do. Most of us were very creative as children, before we learned the official rules about how things are supposed to be. We can resurrect our ability to be more creative by exploring some of the many techniques that have been developed to improve creative and artistic ability, as well as to improve creative problem solving.

Some of the techniques that are used to improve creativity include brainstorming, mind-mapping, various forms of hypnosis and meditation, and guided imagery.

The techniques that have been developed to try enhance creativity all have one thing in common. They are all trying to bypass the inner judge or critic we have in our minds.

Most of us have an inner voice that is running a constant commentary on everything we think and do. We might barely notice this inner voice much of the time, yet it has a great impact on what we can accomplish in our life.

In many of us this inner voice is usually very negative. No matter what we want think about, or want to do, this inner voice is running like a tape in the background of our minds, criticizing our ideas, our performance, and our ability to be successful.

When we come up with a new idea, our inner voice may be saying, This idea is stupid. Or it might tell us, I should never be mediocre or average, I must be brilliant and perfect all the time. All my ideas should be totally brilliant and innovative. If my ideas arent perfect right from the start, I am a failure and its better not to even try.

Our negative inner critic does not always appear as a voice. Sometimes we see visual images of ourselves failing. Or we may have physical sensations of fear and embarrassment that stop us from pursuing new ideas or new actions.

Your inner critic isnt being evil when it criticizes you, or when it tells you your ideas are not very good. Your critic is actually trying to protect you from being ashamed or embarrassed by the potentially negative comments and reactions of other people to your ideas.

Our inner critic is trying to make us perfect and safe, but it can have an unforeseen damaging effect.

If our inner judgmental dialogue is mostly negative, our creative abilities will suffer.

Instead of helping us to come up with better ideas, this endless barrage of negative inner commentary will hurt our ability to come up with new ideas.

You cant be creative, and be critical at the same time. These two processes require different ways of thinking. The critical, judgmental, analytical function of the brain is not the part that knows how to generate creative ideas.

Even the types of brainwaves that you generate when you are being rational and analytical are quite different than the brainwaves that go with maximum creativity.

When its time for you to be creative, you have to send your inner critic out for a walk.

Mountain biking is an exciting sport that can be
enjoyed by anyone who knows how to ride a bike.
Compared to the average bike ride, it does present
some danger. Therefore, you should master these
basic skills before you hit the trails or the
dirt.

You can practice these beginning skills at a local
park, school, bike path, or simply around your
house. If you can, try to find a location with
a steep hill.

Get a feel for your pedals

Practice moving your foot away from the pedal,
first while sitting on your bike with one foot on
the ground. Next, move on to releasing and
replacing your foot while pedaling around for a
bit. Those with toe clip and clipless type foot
pedals will want to spend a bit more time
practicing.

Sit and spin for position

Simply sit on your bike and pedal around. You
should keep your arms slightly bent. You should
also adjust your seat height so your leg is 70 to
90 percent extended at the bottom of every stroke
on the pedal. Keep your body relaxed, as there
will never be a position where you should have
either your knees or your elbows locked.

Shifting gears

Get a feel for shifting gears with your bike. The
higher gears are harder to pedal and will go
faster while the lower gears are easier to pedal
and will help you ascend hills. As you get to
steeper hills, its best to shift before you get
to the hill rather than while your on it.

Coasting

You should spend a bit of time coasting while
standing on your pedals, without actually sitting
on the seat. Keep your arms bent but don’t lock
your knees. Now, try experimenting with shifting
your body towards the rear end of the bike.

Pedal while standing

You should get as comfortable as you can with
pedaling while standing on your bike. Try lifting
yourself off the seat while standing on the pedals,
then crank them around. You should try this in
higher gears on flat ground then again in lower
gears while on a hill.

Dropping down a curb

Try finding a curb where you can easily get to the
upper portion of it. Practice at a moderate speed,
standing and coasting right off the curb from the
upper level to the lower level. Try this at
different speeds until it becomes second nature.

Once you practice these techniques and get the
hang of them, you’ll be able to hit the trails feeling
comfortable on your mountain bike. Even though it
may take some getting used to, it’ll become second
nature before you know it.

Very few cycling garments are worn in the mall when trolling for a good time. Cycling sunglasses are an exception.

Tight cycling jerseys with three pockets across the back are seldom seen. Mall rats don’t choose cycling shoes with cleats- they look funny and it’s hard to keep the ghetto pants from falling off when you’re tapping along the tiles with your toes in the air. Somehow, I like that visual.

I haven’t seen too many pairs of bonafide cycling shorts there either. Mall enthusiasts wear their shorts and pants so low that I doubt anything made of cloth has ever contacted the groin proper. Bike shorts with that special chamois caressing them might shock them into questioning their sexual orientation.

But cycling sunglasses- yea, they’ll work.

So what makes them ‘cycling sunglasses’? I suppose the label.

But there are some features that make cycling sunglasses stand apart.

They have to be unbreakable, for example. That’s right, glass lens are ill-advised. But don’t despair- with all the revolutionary new plastics out there, you’ll never miss the heavy ole glass devils. And these plastics are tough, I’m telling you. So tough, they’ll protect you from a variety of road hazards.

Such as…

-little flying rocks
 -little flying bugs
 -moderate sized flying bugs
-winds that will dry out your contact lenses
-boogers from the guy ahead of you in the paceline
-flying splinters if you're riding on old wood sidewalks in Virginia City

You get the picture.

They’ll even protect you from the second most damaging agent out there (after boogers)- namely UV rays.

I’ve got a pair of cycling sunglasses with interchangeable lenses. Dark lenses for sunny conditions, yellow lenses for overcast days when more contrast is needed, and clear lenses for dark times when hazard protection is needed, but light is at a premium.

I must admit that when I heard about interchangeable lenses I thought of ‘flip-up’ sunglasses. You know, the kind that nerd tourists wear to Disneyland.

I’ve noticed that when most products try to do more than one task, they do none of them with excellence. And they usually look dorky along with their mediocrity. Not so with the interchangeable-lens-cycling-sunglass!

The lenses snap in and out very firmly, so they’ll never fall apart. They look so ‘natural’ you’d swear they were engineered by Hollywood’s most renowned plastic surgeon. He’ll sell you a pair that look ‘perky’…and ‘well-rounded’.

But will they stay on?

Look no further than the winter Olympics! The skaters had their glasses (we’ll assume they were cycling glasses) on over the humiliating looking hood of their speed suits. What this did was effectively eliminate the advantage of having ears. And they still stayed on! So what’s the point?

The point is…even cyclists without ears can wear cycling sunglasses with confidence.

How about pricing?

If you’re one of those who think that the economy is really kickin butt because your wallet just keeps getting fatter and fatter, ‘Rudy Project’ or ‘Smith’ sunglasses can be had for a couple hundred bucks a pair.

If you wonder when all the good economic news is going to trickle down to affect you personally, follow my lead. I received a pair of glasses from Performance Bike for Christmas (Winter Solstice Day for you pagan infidels) that work great. They’re relatively inexpensive, they break wind, they provide UV protection, they bend but don’t break, they stay on even without the use of ears, and most importantly…

They look good at the mall with ghetto pants and skater shoes.

For all those who are tired of the DRM restrictions on music downloading and sharing, Vodafone has good news to offer. The telecom provider has now signed deals with some major record companies such as Sony Music, Universal Music and EMI in order to give its users the facility of downloading and sharing music without DRM restrictions.

DRM or Digital Rights Management is a highly unpopular measure that attempts to stop the illegal sharing of music files. However, it often stops users from using their genuine music files too on multiple devices. Thus, music gets limited to one or two devices, and users cannot access these files according to their convenience.

Vodafone has tried to tackle the problem through the new deal. With a first of its kind initiative, the company has tried to make customers’ favourite music available to them, without worrying about whether they will be able to use the music on multiple devices. Users who have already bought WMA format music files from the record companies involved in this deal will also not be left out, as they will now be able to have their music upgraded to DRM-free MP3 free of cost. So now downloading music on the move on your laptop should be hassle free; if you need more info on the latest in mobile broadband and laptop deals, try Mobile Broadband Genie to keep informed.

Pieter Knook, Director, Vodafone Internet Services spoke on the importance of this initiative. He said that music is an integral part in the lives of most customers, and thus it is important to take steps that ensure that they can access their favourite music at all times and on any device.

No worries. Just the fact that the airport of Mauritius is in the South East of the island close to Mahebourg does not mean the North is out of reach. Beginning at the airport you just follow the motorway direction the capital Port Louis. How long this will take is not a matter of speed of your car but the time of travelling. During weekends or during the early afternoon for example this way of around 40 km takes a little more than 30 minutes. But during rush hour this can take easily more than the double time. As from the center of the island, Curepipe, it will be no problem, but then it starts. Passing the cities of Quatre Bornes and Rose Hill you will feel the difference. Well, what to do? There is only one way to the north if you don’t want to pass through mountains and forests (nice way: via La Nicolaire, a water reservoir in the north).
Mauritius by helmet13

Enjoy simply the view when you are stucked in the traffic jam. You will see the harbor and the coast line in front of the capital. Observe the ships coming while you travel in stop-and-go speed. Once you have reached the round about of Caudan Waterfront you can consider yourself lucky: the worst is over. As from here its only a few meters until the city center (enjoy the look right to the Government house and left the Waterfront) because as from then the traffic will be fluid. At this time will pass by many kilometers of stop and go direction Port Louis from the North as well. But that doesn’t matter, you are done and out of trouble. Just beware now the speed limit: you will not see the hidden police men in the bushes with their speed-pistols. Once trapped, you will have to stop immediately and papers will be checked. You are not able to pay on place but will have to go to court once the case is openen. And this can take long time…You have the pleasure to go on two lanes until Pamplemousses (yes, its there where you find the famous botanical garden), then its one lane traffic until the north. Once arrived at the end of the road you have the choice: left to Trou aux Biches and Pointe aux Canonniers, on the right you reach Grand Baie and Pereybere. The way from Port Louis to Grand Bay does usually not take more than another 30 minutes. Some on
