When you get to the retirement years you don’t have to get out your pension fund straight away. As a choice, you may choose to suspend procuring a retirement income until the ripe old age of seventy five and if you do so you may well find you get an enhanced deal. It is referred to as income drawdown.

When you are aged between 50 & seventy-five you are allowed to postpone the purchase of your pension allowance from your insurance business. Instead, you are able to remove up to one-hundred and twenty percent of the pension fund that could have been originally obtained using Government Actuary rates, and leave the remaining capital invested for when you require it. On your part, all you need to do is to make sure you buy an annuity by the point you’re seventy five years old.

Crucially, what would come about if you decided to take the income draw down selection, & then passed on? If this did crop up then your present significant other or those legally responsible would have three selections: either to agree to a lump sum, minus tax at thirty-five percent, or instead keep on going with financial taking out, or purchasing an annuity with the financial investments. Your present companion has until they reach 60 to put off the purchase of an annuity, though no benefits are allowed to be given in the interim period.

Why pick income draw down? Well first & foremost because it might end in you earning a more prosperous retirement settlement from your pension by doing so. Secondly, you can decide specifically when you get the pension annuity, thus if you retire at an occasion when annuity rates are low, waiting could be a smarter decision. If the remaining resources climb as predicted, then together with the reality that the annuity rates improve with age, you might ultimately be able to purchase an improved pension than you could have been given earlier.

Besides, it also means that when you die your other half or those responsible are covered monetarily, as they are entitled to the residual funds, as discussed before.

There are hazards as a consequence though. If investment performance on the remaining stocks is bad, then the extent of settlement payable might fall. And it’s important to remember that there’s no promise that the pension bought will eventually be higher than the entire amount that could have been procured at the beginning. To most riders, motorcycle helmets do not fit into their dream accessory. They feel helmets are restrictive and unnecessary and do not add to their aesthetic appeal. But it is important to know why you need to wear a helmet while riding a bike and what it does for you.

Motorcycle helmets act as a protection device for your head. Nearly all motor crashes in which riders do not wear helmets, result in major head injuries. To drive this point further, according to a survey done in the state of California, in 900 crashes, there were 980 head and neck injuries. The major factor was that most riders were not wearing proper headgear.

Canada has made it a mandatory rule for motorbike riders to wear helmets after seeing the way people die in these accidents. But in the USA, in some states, it still remains a choice for the rider - so it is for you to decide what is more precious to you.

Hopefully, now that you are convinced about purchasing a helmet, let us see some of the things that you should keep in mind while buying a motorcycle helmet.

All helmets have an outer shell and an inner shell. The outer shell is meant to protect the head from initial impact and undertake all the abrasions onto it. The inner shell is basically a lining of foam that aims at minimizing the impact of the shock by absorbing it as much as possible. It is also supposed to provide comfort to the rider as well.

In order to ascertain whether your helmet is safe enough for you or not, you must check whether it has the Department of Transportation sticker or not. A globally accepted safety standard for helmets is a sticker by the Snell Memorial Foundation.

Besides these safety stickers, the other important thing is to ensure that the motorcycle helmet of your choice gives you a proper fit. It should not be loose or too tight. You must be comfortable with it, as remember that you will be wearing it for quite some time. There should not be any red marks on your head or face - otherwise the helmet is too tight for you. At the same time, it should not come off your head or it just might fall off in an accident- providing you with no protection.

Also, you must choose between the various types of materials of which motorcycle helmets are made. Heavy helmets are made of fiberglass but it can crack if dropped. Another type of material used is injection-molded plastic. This is cheap and light but requires a lot of care. So think before you decide.

Enjoy the ride!

If there is one vital piece of mountain biking equipment, it is your mountain bike helmet. The purchase of your helmet should be at least as important as buying your bike. Whether in the city or off-road, you have no business being on a bike, without a mountain bike helmet.

Although accidents cannot be eliminated, wearing a helmet will reduce the risk and severity of a head injury by up to 88 percent.

It is therefore worth spending as much as you can afford on the best mountain bike helmet. Your life may depend on it! It is an investment in your safety, and will be used for a long time.

If you are a novice rider, buy your helmet from a store that specialize in biking equipment. Ask a knowledgeable sales person to advise you. A quality mountain bike helmet is of little use, if it isn’t fitted properly.

The helmet should be placed evenly on your head, and rest about 1″ or 2.5cm above your eyebrows. Ensure that the helmet doesn’t tip forward or backward, but rests straight on your head.

Your mountain bike helmet should fit snugly. Utilize the different foam pads inside the helmet to get the tightest and most comfortable fit. Pull the chinstrap as tight as possible, and adjust the side straps so that they rest just below the ears. The chinstrap should never be on the point of the chin, but moved back.

The helmet should pull down when you open your mouth wide, although there should be just about enough room to allow you to eat. If not, tighten the chinstrap. Make sure that both buckles are on the jaw and under the ear.

The mountain bike helmet should not feel loose, or move more than 1″ or 2.5cm in any direction when you shake your head from side to side. If it does slip, check and adjust the foam pads or side straps. If you physically move the helmet, the skin on your forehead will move with it, if it is a proper fit.

The airflow over the head is the means of ventilation in a mountain bike helmet. Larger side vents also improve ventilation. There is usually a sweat band on the inside of the helmet to control sweat, and ensure comfort.

Manufacturers are constantly striving to design lighter, better ventilated mountain bike helmets. This may compromise reinforcement, and affect safety. Be sure to look for a sticker that states that the helmet meets the necessary safety standards.

The best indication of this is the CPSC logo, or in Europe the CE logo, or alternatively SNELL certification. Helmets with the ANSI standard are not recommended.

Never wear a mountain bike helmet that has been in a crash. Even if the damage is not visible, you should always replace it with a new helmet.

One example of exceptional mountain bike helmets, is the Giro range. Their E2 is sleek, light, and comfortable. The unique Wind Tunnel Ventilation system, offers all the channels and vents you need for a cool ride.

The Giro Rib Cage, and in-mold technology ensures superb reinforcement. The snazzy Point of View Visor features an inventive internal clutch mechanism. Adjustment is secure. You won’t be distracted by irritating rattling on the trail.

Giro also offers an infant mountain bike helmet, the ME2. Kids adore them! The strap guides are simple, and the buckle won’t bite young skin. The helmet features a microshell with a built in bug net.

Young riders love looking and feeling cool with Flume, the youth version of the mountain bike helmet. They can choose between Lavender Space Girl, Yellow/Black Flames, or Silver/Blue Flames.

Take your time when fitting a mountain bike helmet. It may take 20 - 30 minutes to get the correct helmet fit. Examine all the different types and styles. Experiment with pad and strap positions.

You will find that mountain bike helmet that was made for you, that will hug your head snugly, and will enable you to tackle any trail with confidence and a feeling of security.

Robotic Underwater ship cleaning robotic unit, the M3500 Robotic System robot, is UltraStrip’s robotic systems have recently completed a number of hull-cleaning operations for the U.S. Navy as well as major cruise-line operators. A hull-cleaning involving more than 33,000 square feet of hull cleaned to near white-metal tolerances can be completed in just 72 hours.

Think about this technology, it is underwater doing cleaning and can patrol our harbors and Naval Ship yards from Underwater assaults by International Terrorists. We believe this company is quite leading edge and we applaud their efforts to keep the bottoms of ships clean to increase efficiency and speed of the vessels and protect against and monitor corrosion.

It can also be used for testing drinking water supplies, monitoring algae blooms and watching for drug runners using under water means of transport. As this technology becomes more widely used, the price will come down to a point that you will be able to buy a small iRobot underwater vacuum like device not larger than a pool sweep to clean the underside of your private vessel without ever taking it out of the water. Just think sitting on the deck and enjoying life while you clean your hull.

In the summer the prevailing wind is the infamous Meltemi from the NW - WNW. July and August sees the winds at their strongest, force 5 - 6 on the northern coast but more often a more gentle force 3 - 4. The spring and autumn sees winds form the south, force 2 - 4. The southern coast is notorious for strong squalls the blow down from the mountains. There is little in the way of warning and they can be violent close inshore. It gets very hot on the island during the summer months with the average daily temperature reaching 35 deg C in July and August and temperatures as high as 40 deg C are not uncommon.

Nisis Gramvousa lies off Crete’s S coast. There is a sheltered bay on the SE side of the island. Yachts can anchor in the bay or go bows to the quay. There are no facilities but water is available fro a well by the chapel

Palaiokhora is near the SW tip of Crete. Go alongside or bow or stern to in the new harbour on the E side of the rocky headland. Or anchor in either of the two bays to the E and W of the headland depending on the winds direction. There is water and fuel in the village and all provisions can be obtained. The tavernas here are good.

There are anchorages on either side of Ak Mouros. Ormos Loutra to the E where a yacht can anchor of the village and Ormos Foinikias to the W. There are a few tavernas and limited provisions can be obtained in the village.

Further to the W is Skafion. Yachts can anchor of the village in calm weather. There are tavernas ashore and all provisions can be found. The once tiny village is now a booming tourist resort

At Ay Galini yachts can go bow or stern to or alongside the quay. There is good holding on the sandy bottom and shelter from the Meltemi. There is water on the quay and fuel in the town. All provisions can be obtained and there are good tavernas. Another recently developed tourist resort.

Matala is a horseshoe shaped bay on the W side of Ak Latinos. Yachts should only use it in calm weather. Most provisions can be obtained and there are good tavernas ashore. Matala is mentioned in Homer’s Odyssey. Here Menelau’s ships were wrecked returning from the Trojan wars. It was an important port in Roman times.

Kali Limenes is a small bay on the E side of Ak Litinos. Yachts can anchor in the bay in depth of 3 - 6m. There is good shelter from the N and W but it is open to the E and S. Limited provisions can be found in the village and there are a few tavernas.

Lerapetrais a medium sized harbour. Yachts can go bow or stern to on the N or W sides. There is water on the quay and fuel from the town. All provisions may be obtained and there are good waterfront tavernas. The town and harbour date back to Minoan times but sadly little of the ancient architecture remains.

Yachts can anchor in the large sandy bay of Kato Zakros. There are a couple of tavernas ashore but the main attraction is the ruins of a Minoan palace at the foot of the dramatic gorge.

Ormos Grandes is a large bay on the N side of Ak Plaka. Yachts can seek shelter from the Meltemi at Kouremenos in the N of the bay. 2 miles to the N of Kouremenos is Vai. Here yachts can anchor of the sandy beach and there are tavernas ashore.

Crete’s cuisine is similar to that found throughout the Aegean. Fish plays a large part in the form of tuna, swordfish, sea bass, urchins, octopus, squid and cuttlefish. You will find beef, pork, lamb and goat. A rabbit stew is a speciality. As is cheese pie and fried cheese (staka). For those with a sweet tooth try yogurt and honey tarts (kaltzounia). Cretan wine is fairly good.

Trouble Shooting Suspension Problems.

Adjustment locations: Forks

Rebound adjustment (if applicable) is located near the top of the fork. Compression adjustment (if applicable) is located near the bottom of the fork. Spring preload adjustment (if applicable) is generally hex style and located at the top of the fork.

Lack of Rebound

Symptoms:

• Forks are plush, but increasing speed causes loss of control and traction

• The motorcycle wallows and tends to run wide exiting the turn causing fading traction and loss of control.

• When taking a corner a speed, you experience front-end chatter, loss of traction and control.

• Aggressive input at speed lessons control and chassis attitude suffers.

• Front end fails to recover after aggressive input over bumpy surfaces.

Solution: Insufficient rebound. Increase rebound “gradually” until control and traction are optimized and chatter is gone.

Too Much Rebound

Symptoms:

• Front end feels locked up resulting in harsh ride.

• Suspension tucks in and fails to return, giving a harsh ride. Typically after the first bump, the bike will skip over subsequent bumps and want to tuck the front.

• With acceleration, the front end will tank slap or shake violently due to lack of front wheel tire contact.

Solution: Too much rebound. Decrease rebound “gradually” until control and traction are optimized.

Lack of Compression

Symptoms:

• Front-end dives severely, sometimes bottoming out over heavy bumps or during aggressive breaking.

• Front feels soft or vague similar to lack of rebound.

• When bottoming, a clunk is heard. This is due to reaching the bottom of fork travel.

Solution: Insufficient compression. Increase “gradually” until control and traction are optimized.

Too Much Compression

Symptom:

• Front end rides high through the corners, causing the bike to steer wide. It should maintain the pre-determined sag, which will allow the steering geometry to remain constant.

Solution: Decrease compression “gradually” until bike neither bottoms nor rides high.

Symptom:

• Front end chatters or shakes entering turns. This is due to incorrect oil height and/or too much low speed compression damping.

Solution: First, verify that oil height is correct. If correct, then decrease compression “gradually” until chattering and shaking ceases.

Symptom:

• Bumps and ripples are felt directly in the triple clamps and through the chassis. This causes the front wheel to bounce over bumps.

Solution: Decrease compression “gradually” until control is regained.

Symptom:

• Ride is generally hard, and gets even harder when braking or entering turns.

Solution: Decrease compression “gradually” until control is regained.

Adjustment Locations: Rear Shock

Rebound adjustment (if applicable) is located at the bottom of the shock. Compression adjustment (if applicable) is located on the reservoir. Spring prelude is located at the top of the shock.

Shock: Lack of Rebound

Symptoms:

• The ride will feel soft or vague and as speed increases, the rear end will want to wallow and/or weave over bumpy surfaces and traction suffers.

• Loss of traction will cause rear end to pogo or chatter due to shock returning too fast on exiting a corner.

Solution: Insufficient rebound - Increase rebound until wallowing and weaving disappears and control and traction are optimized.

Shock: Too Much Rebound

Symptoms:

• Ride is harsh, suspension control is limited and traction is lost.

• Rear end will pack in, forcing the bike wide in corners, due to rear squat. It will slow steering because front end is riding high.

• When rear end packs in, tires generally will overheat and will skip over bumps.

• When chopping throttle, rear end will tend to skip or hop on entries.

Solution: Too much rebound. Decrease rebound “gradually” until harsh ride is gone and traction is regained. Decrease rebound to keep rear end from packing.

Shock: Lack of Compression

Symptoms:

• The bike will not turn in entering a turn.

• With bottoming, control and traction are lost.

• With excessive rear end squat, when accelerating out of corners, the bike will tend to steer wide.

Solution: Insufficient compression. Increase compression “gradually until traction and control is optimized and/or excessive rear end squat is gone.

Shock: Too Much Compression

Symptoms:

• Ride is harsh, but not as bad as too much rebound. As speed increases, so does harshness.

• There is very little rear end squat. This will cause loss of traction/sliding. Tire will overheat.

• Rear end will want to kick when going over medium to large bumps.

Solution: Decrease compression until harshness is gone. Decrease compression until sliding stops and traction is regained.

Has the power gone out at your house? Has your refrigerator stopped working during the night? Do you have concerns regarding the stuff you had in your freezer?

Relax ,in that case you can use some easy tips for handling food safely.

If the food has been completely thawed or even warmed to room temperature, throw it away. Discard it if it has been out of the refrigerator for over two hours.

Make sure to cook the food right away if it’s almost thawed and still a little cold. As long as you have cooked your meal it’s fine to eat and stick it in the fridge to eat later.

The food can be refrozen if there are still ice crystals visible on it. If you don’t have a freezer to put it in, make sure to get some dry ice and put it in a cooler. These items will need to be cooked, because your freezer will not offer the same longevity that a normal freezer would offer.

If you notice any food with even a little freezer burn, you need to throw it away.

Sudden power outages cannot be avoided, but there are things you can do to prepare for them.
If your existing fridge or freezer has seen better days, the best advice that anyone can give you is you invest in a new one. Consider a large American Style fridge freezer when you have enough space. This can really make the difference to any kitchen. A variety of American refrigerators and freezers from many suppliers are listed on this site.
