Most people believe that the drop-shot rig is only for finesse fishing, but there is more than one way to skin a cat! (or Fish), as the case may be. The new Power Drop-Shot style started by Kotaro Kiriyama, is fast becoming the way to bigger and better bags on many of the tournament trails.

Drop-shot rigs consist of a hook tied above a sinker that is placed at the end of the line so that the lure suspends off the bottom. Conventional tackle consists of light action spinning gear and 4-8 pound line, and the tactic is usually deployed vertically in deep water.

Kiriyama says “Drop-Shotting is about presenting a soft plastic lure in a manner that is different from Texas rigging or Carolina rigging.” When conditions allow, Kiriyama, (who logged 10 Top 10 finishes in his first 37 events on tour), says “You may get more bites with lighter line and smaller baits, but when there is heavier cover, a power version is required.

This is a technique we have employed with success all last year, and now we are going to share it with you here in the Northeast. This technique works great in all the lakes, rivers, and impoundment’s here in the Northeast. It is a great way to put together a real quality stringer.

The drop shot’s configuration with the weight beneath the lure, makes it ideal for pitching into heavy cover. The reason, is that the sinker goes through cover better and falls right to the bottom.

You can fish faster and cover more water! We fish it just like other anglers fish a Texas rig, but like Kiriyama, we believe it is more effective! This is a great tactic for places like the Potomac River or Lakes such as Kerr or Gaston, where the fish are highly pressured and are used to seeing anglers flip Texas rigs and Carolina rigs. This gives the highly pressured fish a completely different look. The rig has some other advantages also. There is less line wear at the hook knot because the sinker isn’t beating against it, and the hook isn’t dragging the bottom where the line and knot can be damaged. You can also detect the bites a lot easier, because the sensation goes through the line without passing through a sinker that deadens the sensitivity. In lower Delaware we have a Bald Cypress swamp in one of the lakes, and there are also similar areas in the Nanticoke River. Most anglers flip these trees with Texas rigged worms in the 4 inch size or with a small lizard in the spring. We like the power drop shot rig in these areas the best. It attracts bass that are lying near the bottom or are suspended in cover down at the roots.

You can fish this rig either horizontally or vertically. In the heavy currents in the Sassafras River on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, we drag it from the calm water into the faster moving current, and catch largemouth holding near the edges waiting for an easy meal. You can also use this rig successfully in deep cover. This will work well in the standing timber in Table Rock Lake when fished on a Fluorocarbon line in 10-16 pound test. We have used 30 pound test when the fish were aggressive, and gone down to 10 pound when the bite is tougher. This is a clear to stained water technique though, and works much better in these conditions. There are areas here in the Northeast that have extremely clear water at times, and it excels in those areas. We use this around deep points also with great success. Waters such as Spruce Run and Greenwood in New Jersey and New York are great areas to use the Power Drop shot. We use it anywhere you would normally use a Carolina or Texas rig.

When we flip the Power Drop shot rig we use 6 and 6 1/2 inch Yamamoto Cut Tail worms. We have tried a variety of other baits with this rig, but the straight tail and Cut-Tail worms have produced the best results. When you are flipping it in fairly light cover, you can go with a lighter sinker of 1/16 of an ounce, and as the cover gets thicker, we go as high as 3/8 of an ounce. Since the start of 2003, we have been using nothing but the Tungsten weights for all our baits. We believe this is especially important with the Power Drop Shot also, as the Tungsten is heavier than lead, allowing for a smaller profile, which penetrates the cover better, and allows for a better feel of the bottom.

We generally rig the baits with a 2/0 to a 3/0 Gamakatsu or X-Point hook, but we will go as high as a 5/0 on some of the bigger worms at times. The general rule when using this rig for flipping is simple; The distance between the hook and the weight, is no more than 3-6 inches longer than the bait itself.

The rig is simple to use, no fancy tricks are needed. Just drop the bait around cover and let it sit. No other action is necessary because of the way the bait suspends off the line. The natural current of the water imparts all the action you need. We use this on bedding bass also, since we have no closed season here in Delaware during the tournaments. The technique is just like any other type of flipping we do. We drop it in near the cover, let it sit a few seconds if the bass are being finicky, and then lift it up and pitch it to the next target.

Try Power Drop Shotting this year in your local waters when everyone else is throwing a Texas or Carolina rig, and you will get a big surprise!

Gender Issues31 Mar 2008 02:46 pm

As a somewhat older gentleman (but still fairly good looking and
somewhat romantic?) I have always enjoyed good relationships
with the younger folk - Oh! The times I have been called upon
over recent years to inspect and give an opinion on some poor
new prospective boyfriend.

Of course, it is somewhat flattering to be consulted for such
advice by pretty young females. However, my opinions and comment
are based more upon my experienced knowledge of the devious
thinking of younger males (I once was one) rather than any
psychic ability.

I have always held a very open mind to most matters and my
sideline interest in psychic and astrology subjects has been
generated more as result of relationships with members of the
fairer sex who dally in such areas.

More recently, with time on my hands due to health reasons I
tended to read more on the subject and, in particular, that of
the compatibility of people under their different zodiac signs.
So, out of simple curiosity I conducted a simple experiment.

I prepared two lists on which I set down the names of numerous
males and females that I had known over the years - friends,
lover’s, business etc. I then noted alongside each name my
relationship with that person as Excellent-Excellent
Romantic-Good or Average. After this, I noted down where
possible, each person’s birth date and Zodiac sign. I made many
phone calls and researched many old dairies to complete this
particular information.

An analysis of the lists threw up that, throughout my life, my
most excellent relationships had been with Arian’s, Leo’s,
Aquarian’s, Geminis, Taurean’s and Sagittarian’s. Of these, my
most Romantic ‘Excellent relationships’ had centred upon Leo’s,
Gemini’s & Arian’s plus, one very special sensual Scorpio.

Zodiac research indicated that the female Sagittarian offered
the best compatibility choice for my sign of Aries; there were
no Sagittarian female romances on my list of females.

There was however, one female at the beginning of my list. She
dated way back to my lecherous youth and due to the haze of time
I could not recall or remember her birthday.

As I sat one evening and reminisced back some 40 years to that
time, I had to conclude, with a somewhat lecherous smile on my
face, that this lady had to be the best and most exciting
romantic relationship in my life to date. This was a young male
older women relationship and a bit of a social no-no at that
time. Might turn it into an Ebook one day entitled - ‘Lady
Sagittarian’s Lover’ or something similar.

My curiosity gained the better of me and I set to work to trace
her and in time managed to locate her surviving son. From him I
gained her birthday to discover she had indeed been a
Sagittarian.

Can the stars be right? I don’t really know. I can say however
that in my case, without doubt, that lovely Sagittarian lady of
so long ago was indeed the most exciting romantic activity of my
life to date.

Who knows, there may yet still be another fantastic Sagittarian
girl out there for this optimistic older Arian? Although one of
a little lesser vitality than that exciting Sagittarian princess
of so long ago.

Almost all human beings are conscious about their beauty and they adopt all means to improve or maintain it. The quality of skin is having priority in the field of beauty care. Skin is considered as the mirror of the human body and it reflects the physical, mental and emotional status of every person.

The number of people attending beauty clinics and dermatologists is increasing day by day. Even though skin diseases are having low mortality, people are worried about skin problems because of the social stigma. A person having a disease of some internal organ may not be worried but another person having a skin disease on the face may be depressed because of the simple reason ‘others will come to know about my disease’.

Human skin has got several functions like protection, heat regulation, water balance, excretion etc. It gives protection and support to the deep body tissues and has got the ability to stretch to some extent due to the presence of protein fibers in the dermis. But too fast enlargement of the body parts cause excessive stretching on the skin resulting in breaking of collagen and elastin fibers of the dermis. This causes slightly depressed discoloration called stria atrophia or stretch marks. Initially these marks are slightly pinkish and later become white or silvery in appearance.

Stretch marks are found in conditions like pregnancy, puberty, obesity etc. It is usually seen in places like abdomen, thighs, breasts, buttocks, shoulders etc. Once these marks appear, time is required for them to be less prominent.

Both men and women are the victims of stretch marks but it mainly affects women due to their beauty consciousness and causes psychological trauma leading to depression. On the other hand there are women who are least bothered to get rid of stretch marks and consider them as a badge of mother hood. Still the number of people visiting clinics to remove stretch marks is increasing day by day. Because of the increasing need for the stretch mark treatment modalities, there are number of products in the market to deal with stretch marks cure. But most of those products are not proved effective scientifically but few of them give results in many cases. Modern treatment methods like plastic surgery and laser surgery for stretch marks have been proved effective in the treatment.

Dental coverage is normally not underwritten by insurance
companies because the treatment and medication of dental needs
are predictable and follow a time table. No individual would opt
for a dental insurance plan if he were to pay more in premium
than in annual dental charges, and the insurance company would
lose money if they pay more in claims than the premium collected
for each policy they underwrite.

Despite these drawbacks, some companies offer dental benefits by
group discount schemes. These are also called discounted dental
plans or affordable dental plans. These are a kind of “clubs”
where membership costs a little money monthly or annually where
the members can avail of dental services at a discounted rate.
The dental service providers or dentists affiliated to these
“clubs” have agreed to provide dental services at a discounted
rate. The payment is made directly by the patient to the
dentist, no paperwork or claims or future hassles. These “clubs”
only do matchmaking between the patient and the dentist, earning
money in the process. The dentist in turns gains to earn due to
larger volumes of work. The patient gets the service at a
discounted rate. It’s a WIN-WIN for all parties involved.

Dental Insurance when offered is again a complicated issue. The
insurance company generally stresses upon background checks and
pre-existing conditions. After this goes through you have to
wait out until the coverage starts. When the treatment is
actually undergone, a lot of paperwork regarding claims, %age
exclusions etc. come to the fore where it becomes more of a pain
to actually undergo and finish the process of reimbursement.

However insurance has its own benefits and plans have their own.
A lot of employers also provide dental insurance whereupon the
need for plans ceases for the individual. It’s for the
individual to decide between the two as per their requirement,
needs and current situation.

.NET platform does not support multiple inheritance. Do not confuse multilevel inheritance with multiple inheritance. With multiple inheritance we can have a subclass that inherits from two classes at the same time.

Let’s suppose we have an application that has a class Customers and another class Vendors. If you wanted to combine these two classes into one CustomerVendor class it would be a combination of Customers and Vendors just like the diagram below.

Please copy the following URL into your browser to view the diagram: http://www.vbprofs.com/images/Article Images/ThomasArt1.gif

In the above diagram we see how the CustomerVendor class inherits from both of those classes.

Multiple inheritance is complex and can be dangerous. The advantages of code re-usage prevail over complexity is up to your choice.

Multiple inheritance is not supported by VB.NET or .Net platform. Instead of multiple inheritance we can use multiple interfaces to achieve similar effect to multiple inheritance.

In VB.NET all objects have a primary or native interface, which is composed of properties, events, methods or member variables declared using Public keyword.
Objects can implement also secondary interfaces by using Implement keyword.

Sometimes it is helpful for an object to have more than one interface, allowing us to interact with the object in different ways. Inheritance allow us to create subclasses that are a specialized case of the base class.

Example

Sometimes we have a group of objects that are not the similar, but we want to handle them the same manner. We want all the objects to act as if they are the same, even though they are different.

We can have some different objects in an application, such as customer, product, invoice etc. Each object would have a default interface appropriate to each individual object, and each of them is a different class. No natural inheritance is implied between these classes.
Let’s suppose we want to print a document for each type of object. In this case we’d like to make them all act as printable object.
To accomplish this we can define a generic interface that would enable generating a printed document.
By implementing a common interface we are able to write a routine that accepts any object that implements a printed document.

To conclude, by implementing multiple interfaces in VB.NET , we can achieve a similar effect to that of multiple inheritance.

There’s a lot of hype at the moment about push email technology. New cell phone handsets are beginning to support the technology and it seems to be getting its head into other areas of the market too. This could be the next big thing in the telecommunications industry and the speculation is heating up about who are going to be the major players involved.

Right now there are at least five major operators in this market and surely this will be reduced in the near future. Most experts say that there are simply too many of them fighting over the same space.

Right now both Visto and Seven have been keen to show their commitment to this technology. These are following the lead set by Canadian firm RIM (Research In Motion) who brought the technology into the spotlight with their Blackberry device. While so far they have been concentrating on supplying hardware, they have stated that they will be moving into the supply of software instead in the near future.

The wave of consolidations has already begun. British vendor Comtag was acquired by Smartner who in turn was acquired by Seven; moving in parallel with this, Visto acquired Psion Software. It looks like the heat is turning up in the race to capture this market. Both Visto and Seven show no sign of flagging as they continue to increase the number of operators they can lay claim to, as well as increasing the number of handsets and other supported devices they are marketing. Seven has also added a useful security feature which allows you to send a special message to your device which will delete all the messages it currently has stored. This could be lifesaving if you left your handset in a public place.

Good Technology was somewhat shielded in its area by supporting Palm and Windows devices but now there is the new Windows Mobile based Treos to contend with.

So what is Microsoft’s reaction to all of this? Well, they appear to be gearing up to enter the market. In his blog, Microsoft senior technology specialist, Harold Wong has reported that the company is getting ready to release its ‘Community Technology Preview’ build of Exchange Server 2003, Service pack 2. And this is not the only step the giant is taking. In June 2005, Intellisync announced a new service that would allow subscribers to receive push email on Windows Mobile, Palm OS and Symbian devices.

While, of the current estimated 4 million push email subscribers, most seem to be using RIM Blackberry devices, this assault will be difficult to bare much longer.

On the technical side, there are two basic technologies that can provide push email solutions:

* one technology is true push;

* the other has a push effect using synchronization.

While the users will not notice a significant difference when they log in to check their mail, the costs vary to a considerable extent with true push technologies offering a far cheaper monthly cost to the user. While Intellisync is currently using a SyncML or synchronization technology to serve its customers, RIM and Microsoft are using their own proprietary systems. The system that has found favour both with Vodafone, the world’s largest network operator, and Rogers, the first operator to deploy Blackberry devices is the solution that Visto opted for also. This is best described as a Proprietary + RTP/RTSP system and Visto calls it ConstantSync. It effectively relies on a real time streaming protocol to deliver email over mobile networks.

Whatever the technicalities behind the networks, there is a lot to play for in this emerging market and we’ll have to wait and see whose technology and handheld devices carry the most favour with customers. All have relative advantages and disadvantages both in terms of technology and market strategy and it all really is still to play for.

Stress - Since your skin in your largest organ, how you live can sure influence how healthy your skin is. And stress, not necessarily “bad” stress, but rather certain external and internal stressors, factor into this health equation. So let’s take a look at how to handle these stressors with regards to acne prevention.

External Stressors- A goal of acne prevention would be to keep your skin pores clear from clogging and becoming infected and irritated, resulting in blemishes and inflammation. So you need to take a look at your external environment throughout the day for factors that could trigger skin pore clogging. Here are some examples of what to look for: grease, oils and sun, like being around open fryers in kitchen areas, or around machine oil and grease in workshops or factories, or out in the sun all day on a construction jobsite. Too much oil, grease or sun on the skin can clog pores and trigger acne and other skin irritations.

Minimize contact by wearing long sleeves and other protective wear and gear and discussing further options with your dermatologist or healthcare provider. With regards to being out in the sun, note that a small amount of sun each day can be fine and healthy. However, extended periods can trigger the sebaceous glands to create more oil as your skin dries out. At the same time, the dried out skin needs to be cast off or shed at a faster rate than normal. The resulting extra oils and dead skin make a wonderful environment for pore clogging. So here, too, use protective clothing for outdoor activities and apply sunscreen; oil-free products are best for acne-prone people, and those with a minimum protection of SPF 15 and both UVA and UVB protection.

Internal Stressors - Internal stressors like anxiety, fear, low self-esteem, depression and a variety of other internalized emotions, can trigger chemical reactions inside your body that can result in acne flare-ups and other skin irritations. What happens is that these emotions can set your adrenal glands to work creating more cortisol, the substance that in turn causes your sebaceous glands to produce increased amounts of sebum oil, excessive amounts of which can be blocked in pores. Same old story: extra oil + extra dead skin cells = blocked pores, triggering acne flare-ups. With internal stressors, though, the results are usually “inflamed papules” or small, solid inflammations (or skin elevations that do not contain pus), instead of whiteheads or blackheads.

To combat internal stressors and prevent acne problems, here are some suggestions. Get plenty of rest and sleep a recommended average of eight hours per night. Try to maintain regular hours each day, regardless of which shift your work. Some say to focus on reducing SWAT: reduce your stress, worry, anxiety and tension, so journal a little each day mentioning any “SWAT” stressors you’ve felt. And focus on those that may seem overwhelming or to be taking too long to “end,” seeking help from others or other resources as needed for stress management. Check with your dietician or healthcare provider to establish and follow a regular well-balanced dietary and exercise plan of action to keep your body healthy on the inside and outside. Keep a check list of “Things that Calm You” handy for stressful times, like reading a book, resting, listening to music, taking a walk, going out for an ice cream cone, etc.

World Of Webs30 Mar 2008 02:47 pm

It’s now the year 2006. The internet as we know it has been
around for about 15 years. It’s not new any more, but maturing,
changing. It’s no longer a question of whether people use the
internet, but rather how they use it. For businesses the
question is: how do my employees, my suppliers, my existing and
potential customers, and my community use the internet, and how
can I use the internet to make life easier and more rewarding
for them and as a result grow my business? Answering this
question properly will bring good fortune.

This question itself is not even new. Replace the word
“internet” with telephone, or automobile, or mail or television,
check, credit cards, money, or even time, and you get a question
whose answers have set the path for many a company’s fortunes
over the years. Answer the question correctly, pursue the answer
and the consumer will bring you very good fortune indeed.

What does today’s internet user look like? For a glimpse at some
trends, consider a recent opinion survey conducted by eMarketer
of US Internet Retailers listing the following to be the top
reasons for the continued explosive growth of online shopping:
1. The continued growth in demand for time-saving convenient
services by all consumers (38.2%) 2. The greater acceptance of
and familiarity with the internet by today’s adult (33.6%) 3.
The maturation and growing buying power of today’s web-savvy
teens and young adults. (25.2%) 4. A growing dissatisfaction
with shopping in stores (3.1%) According to these results, we
are as a whole all looking to save time, increasingly familiar
with and comfortable with the internet, and the generation
coming up even more so. That could help explain why online sales
rose over 25% in 2005 or roughly nearly 4 times the growth in
offline sales over the previous year.

How do we here in Catawba County use the internet to make life
easier and rewarding for our customers, employees, and suppliers
wherever they may be and therefore bring more success to our own
businesses and community? 1. Realize the internet is the most
instant and far-reaching medium in existence. China has over 100
million internet users already and is projected to surpass the
US in usage within the next 5 years. Not impressed? How about in
our own neighborhood? More people in our country today use the
internet to search for products and services, and even phone
numbers than the telephone books themselves. Able to be much
more up-to-date than traditional print media, it has gained the
confidence and accessibility to provide greater time savings and
convenience. 2. Know how to present your products and services
attractively and efficiently on the internet. First impressions
last, and those first impressions happen quickly indeed. A
recent Canadian study revealed that the brain can and does make
flash judgments almost as quickly as the eye can take it in
which turns out to be around 1/20th of a second to form an
impression of a website. The study went on to discuss how these
first impressions created either a positive or negative feeling
that carried over into implied confidence or avoidance of the
message that they then may take the time to comprehend. Good
first impressions created trust, and a tendency to use that site
to confirm their decision whereas the opposite was also true. Of
course the site must then follow through with utility and avoid
frustrating the user at any point, or they can leave quicker
then they entered. 3. Just the creation and presentation of a
website will not guarantee success. Advertisers in the US and
Canada spent $5.75 billion on Search Engine Marketing in 2005
which was up 44 percent over 2004. The efficiency of being able
to focus on a specific niche, measure real-time results and make
instant adjustments in your marketing strategies is paying huge
dividends to savvy advertisers in all industries. We can
continue to increase our share of the global marketplace here in
Catawba County by more effectively using one of the most
incredible developments in communications and interaction the
world has ever seen. It is no longer prudent to wait until the
internet comes into its own. The day has already arrived, and
the world is increasingly buying from those who are there making
their lives easier.

Great Real Estate Tips30 Mar 2008 12:04 pm

When you refinance your home mortgage, lenders often tempt you with the option of cashing out part of your home’s equity. Cash at a comparably low interest rate may seem like a good option, but make sure you will financially benefit from it first.

Raising Your Home’s Value

Only some home improvements raise the value of your home. Bathroom and kitchen upgrades are one example of this. However, with most remodel jobs, you will not see a financial gain. If you are using your home’s equity to fund projects, make sure that your investment will pay off.

Saving On Interest Payments

Paying off credit cards with your home’s equity will save you money in two ways. First of all, you will save on interest payments. Secondly, the interest you pay on your mortgage is tax deductible, unlike credit card interest.

PMI Penalty

Private mortgage insurance kicks in if you borrow more than 80% of your home’s value. These extra payments can add up to several hundred dollars a year, so be careful how much you borrow. Other lines of credit may be more cost efficient when you factor in the cost of PMI on your mortgage.

The Length Of The Loan

While it may see smart to take out equity at a low interest rate with your mortgage, it may be cheaper to cash out through a home equity loan. Home equity loans allow you to deduct interest payments from your taxes, but they require a shorter repayment period.

Interest rates on a home equity loan are higher, so you will need to compare the costs between refinancing and a home equity loan. Generally, if your mortgage is long-term, a home equity loan is a better deal.

Your Financial Situation

To decide whether to cash out the equity of your home, you have to make decisions around what is best for your financial situation. There are no hard rules for this type of decision.

For example, purchasing a car with your home’s equity may be a wise investment if you need a car and would struggle with a car payment. In the end, financial decisions are about making trade-offs.

Technology has been able to change our lives incrementally and sometimes drastically. According to Chanaron & Jolly (1999), this impact is more pronounced on businesses, as computers and other technologies are here and not going any time soon. The proliferation of technology in products and services show an insight into how many companies across industries are investing in technology (Papers4you.com, 2006). This insight provides a lesson for managers on how to run and grow a business in a volatile and competitive market place. This has resulted in the rise of electronic businesses across the globe in the last decade.

The diffusion of the internet and commerce has been the center of discussion both by the academics and the practitioners due to its growing importance in the developed countries. This has largely been contributed due to the high penetration of internet connectivity and online transactions of business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) nature. E-businesses have evolved from plain text websites to interactive e-commerce hubs that use internet and mobile technologies to reach their current customers and attract the potential customers (Karen, 1996). Theorists (Chang & Kyungdoo, 2005) believe that the evolution of internet itself has been staggering in the last decade and therefore more ways to conduct businesses have emerged. The use of internet has provided firms with the ability of ‘lean’ and ‘agile’ value chain, which means that firms can keep their operating costs at minimum along with the flexibility to grab any window of opportunities.

Current improvements in the internet services and its inherent characteristics like improved security, reliability, user friendliness, two-way communication, low costs, accessibility and customizability, have been the driving forces for e-commerce (Papers4you.com, 2006). The use of internet offers value to all the stakeholders. Drawing upon Dawes & Rowley (1998), it reduces the operating and distribution costs of the businesses and provides products and services to the customers sitting at home at any time.

The use of internet has opened new avenues for the adoption of innovative business models based on the proliferation of this technology. Tendering via reverse auction also called “e-reverse auctions” or “B-2-B reverse auctions”, for example, have been a common method to source production and non-production goods and services by many Fortune 2000 companies since 1995 (Richards, 2000). Similarly internet has provided the opportunity for affiliate marketing, which optimizes marketing spending by only paying when the particular marketing objectives have been met. Another example of e-business is online bartering, which according to Copeland (2006) is the process by which two parties strike a deal to exchange goods or services without money changing hands.
